MIRA SORVINO FOR PEOPLE

In August 2020, People asked me to photograph Mira Sorvino and her family for a story about how families were coping during quarantine. I FaceTimed with Mira a few days prior to get a tour of her yard (that was in the midst of a stalled renovation during quarantine) to figure out where the sun would be and how it would look at the time of the shoot,, and to hear about her family’s locked-down lifestyle. I always like hearing about real-life inspiration and stories so that we can capture images that feel authentic. They are all quite active and play a lot of sports together so I wanted to try to capture that energy. For everyone’s Covid safety, we agreed that I would photograph them from at least six feet away but the challenge was capturing a family of six playing sports outside in a way that still showed the intimacy of their family bond. At the shoot, I loved how close her kids were to each other, and as a boy mom, I was particularly enamored with how kind her boys were. There were a lot of challenges for this shoot but capturing a family in love was not one of them. Thanks Mira!
