KIDSVOICES
#kidsvoicesforguncontrol
I was despondent last month watching the Uvalde shooting unfold. How are we still here? If nothing happened after Sandy Hook, how could anything be done now? I felt powerless. And yet I canโt give up. I was inspired by Thinking Caps who encourages kids to talk about and bring action to big issues. As the days wore on, there was a debate โ honestly, why is there even a debate about this? I thought about both sides digging into their trenches and not budging. And what was in the middle? KIDS. Our kids are in the middle. And their voice isnโt part of this debate. Thatโs when it clicked. Give them a voice. What do they think about this topic? I started with my own kids. One is too little to know whatโs going on so I spoke for him. And my oldest child is still too young to have to know about this but I shared the situation with him in an age appropriate way and didnโt push it. But before he went off to play, he said โwhy do they let bad guys buy guns?โ HIS VOICE. Thatโs how this personal project was born. Iโll be working on this until our children are safe from guns at school. If youโd like your kids to participate, please reach out to denise@denisecrew.com. Or if youโre a photographer living outside of the LA area and like to help further the project, Iโd love for you to join me. Hereโs what our kids are saying โฆ
